I Matter

One small voice in the world today.
One small place to share my loving ways.
Some might say it doesn't matter anyway,
but I do.
I do.

This old place seems too small for some.
Times I fret about what I haven't done.
Could be I am in the past today.
Leaves me hoping for the words to say.

Memories I have are just songs to sing.
Regrets don't fit in the grander scheme of things.
Better let my feelings ring to the other side.
Better try not to hide.

One small voice in the world today.
One small place to share my loving ways.
Some might say it doesn't matter anyway,
but I do.
I do.

Raised my boy here.
He makes me proud.
Shared it with my daughter and her contagious crowd.
Left my husband standing in the dust.
Found my strength in what I didn't trust.
I am one small voice in the world today.
One small place to share my bravest ways.
Some might say it doesn't matter anyway,
but I do.
I do.

Yes, I am one small voice in the world today.
I am one small voice in the world today.
I am one small voice and I matter.
I matter.
I matter.

  1. O Nancy! I don't know about "small voice". You sing loud and very clear, very beautifully: what it is to be human. In that you speak for everyone, even though you, and I, and all the others can only speak for ourselves individually.

And I have just noticed your "something to ponder" on the side. It sounds like something from C G Jung.

  2. See me blush.
I wrote that after standing there in the Post Office. Those men and all the rest of us mattered but you are right, we must speak for ourselves so others can find themselves in our words.

"something to ponder" is from a note I kept in my wallet so long it was torn and faded.
I placed it here for safe keeping. In truth, I do not know who I quoted, only that it resonates through me, still.
